LineCheckPrivacy policy
LineCheck helps you read and manually review webpage text. This policy explains the extension's data handling and the separate behavior of this support website.
What the extension accesses
LineCheck accesses text and layout on supported webpages to identify lines, show a reading window, magnify the current line in a local text overlay, and display marks. Its content scripts load on supported HTTP, HTTPS, and permitted local-file pages so previously saved marks and reading state can be restored. Local-file access must be enabled separately in Chrome. The extension does not provide automated spelling or grammar analysis.
Magnification uses a local text overlay. It does not capture screenshots, record the screen, or request tab-capture permission.
What stays on your device
LineCheck uses Chrome's local extension storage, not Chrome's synchronized storage, to retain:
- Your interface language.
- Page URLs, including query strings and fragments, and page titles.
- Marked text, mark type, and nearby text context used to find the same passage again. Context includes up to 48 UTF-16 code units on either side.
- Reading-position text anchors, whether Focus was enabled, and record identifiers, revisions, and timestamps.
The webpage text and these records are not sent to the LineCheck developer or an analytics service. The extension has no advertising or analytics SDK and does not require a LineCheck account. Records are not sold, used for advertising, or used to determine creditworthiness.
Your controls and retention
Press Enter or F again to remove the corresponding mark from the selected text. “Clear page” removes that page's marks and saved cursor; it does not delete the entire page record or its URL and title. Page-level metadata and language preferences remain until the extension's local data is cleared. Removing the extension through Chrome removes its local extension storage; if you reinstall it, your previously exported files remain separate.
“Export page records” creates a JSON file on your device containing page data and any unsaved marks. You control whether you share that file. Exported files may contain the page URL, title, and text excerpts; avoid sharing records from confidential pages. The developer cannot remotely retrieve or delete data stored only on your device.
Why permissions are used
- Storage: save preferences and reading records locally.
- Active tab: respond to your explicit action on the current tab.
- Scripting: initialize the local extension code and styles when needed.
- Supported webpage access: identify text, show the reading guide, and restore saved marks and position. Chrome restricts access to certain pages.
If you contact support
If you email wangsk15@outlook.com, the recipient receives your email address and the information you include. It is used to respond to your request. Please do not send passwords, verification codes, or confidential webpage content. You may contact the same address to ask for deletion of support correspondence under the developer's control.
This website
This static information website does not include analytics, advertising scripts, contact forms, or developer-set tracking cookies. It is hosted on GitHub Pages. GitHub may process technical request information, such as IP addresses, when serving the website, under GitHub's privacy statement. Visiting this website is separate from using the extension; the extension does not transmit page records to it.
